Regarding the temporary measures to close the city elementary and junior high schools due to the new coronavirus infection

Based on the request for temporary closing of elementary, junior high, and high schools nationwide by the Japanese government task force to combat the new coronavirus infection, we have decided to close our city elementary and junior high schools in order to prevent infection with the new coronavirus.

While the schools are closed, you are asked to pay attention to your children's health and instruct them to refrain from going out for unnecessary or non-urgent reasons and stay at home.

The details of the measures taken are as follows: Some after school activity clubs for children will extend their operating hours.

Temporary closing of schools

2. Period

From the afternoon of March 2 (Monday) through March 24 (Tuesday)

Note 1) Students will be asked to go to school as usual on March 2 (Monday) and leave school after the school lunch.

Note 2) Schools will be closed for the end of the year vacation starting on March 26 (Thursday).

3. Provision of care to children and students

During the period when the schools are closed for the purpose of preventing the spread of the infection, we will look after only those children and students whose parents, primary care givers, etc. have difficulty in taking care of them for unavoidable reasons or because of special circumstances.

Target children and students

Elementary school children in the third grade or lower whose family members, such as parents or siblings, have difficulty in taking care of them, and who do not go to after school activity clubs for children.

Note) While the schools are closed, after school programs for children will not be opened.

Time

From Eight twenty AM to Two o'clock PM

Other

You are advised to consult with your school individually with regard to children and students in special education classes. Please bring your lunch as needed.

4. Scheduled main events to be held in the coming weeks

As for the following events, we are going to hold them after taking adequate infection control measures, such as an implementation at a reduced scale.

Graduation ceremonies

  • Junior high schools: March 12 (Thursday)
  • Elementary schools: March 18 (Wednesday)

Completion and farewell ceremonies for transferring staff

  • March 25 (Wednesday)

Regarding the operation of after school Urakko clubs (after school activity clubs for children) associated with the countermeasures against the new coronavirus infection

Following the temporary measures to close the city elementary and junior high schools associated with the countermeasures against the new coronavirus infection, after school Urakko clubs (after school activity clubs for children, after school programs for children, and after school centers for children) will operate as follows.

After school activity clubs for children

1. The response measures

After school activity clubs for children will be open even during the period when the city elementary and junior high schools are closed. The opening hours will be from after school to Seven thirty PM on March 2 (Monday). Starting on March 3, the opening hours will be from Eight o'clock AM to Seven thirty PM on both weekdays and Saturdays (from Seven thirty AM for children who submit an application form in advance).

The opening hours may be shortened or the clubs can be temporarily closed, depending on the future developments.

2. Regarding the use of after school activity clubs for children

We are working hard to prevent infection in children at after school activity clubs for children. We would like to ask for the cooperation of primary care givers of children in order to reduce the risk of infection at after school activity clubs as described below.

  • Please check your child's health condition and body temperature before coming to an after school activity club. If the child has fever or symptoms of a common cold, he or she should not come to the club.
  • Please be sure to thoroughly take measures to prevent infection such as washing hands and practicing good coughing etiquette.
  • In order to decrease contacts with one another, please make use of systems for working from home or special leaves are available in your workplace, and minimize the use of after school activity clubs for children.

After school programs for children and after school centers for children:

After school programs for children and after school centers for children will be closed until March 24 along with the closing of the elementary schools.

Regarding the temporary measures to close the city kindergartens and accredited centers for early childhood education and care due to the new coronavirus infection

Based on the request for temporary closing of elementary, junior high, and high schools nationwide by the Japanese government task force to combat the new coronavirus infection, we have decided to close our city kindergartens and accredited centers for early childhood education and care in order to prevent infection with the new coronavirus.

However, day-care centers are open during the period. The details of the measures taken by the kindergartens and accredited centers for early childhood education and care are as follows.

1. The response measures

Temporary closing of the kindergartens and accredited centers

2. Period

From March 3 (Tuesday) through March 24 (Tuesday)

Note) Children will be asked to go to kindergartens or accredited centers as usual on March 2 (Monday) and leave in the afternoon after lunch.

3. Provision of care to children

During the period when the kindergartens and accredited centers are closed for the purpose of preventing the spread of the infection, we will look after only those children whose parents, primary care givers, etc. have difficulty in taking care of them for unavoidable reasons or because of special circumstances.

Target children

Only children whose family members, such as parents or siblings, have difficulty in taking care of them

Time

From Nine o'clock AM to Two o'clock PM

Other

Please bring your lunch as needed.

4. Scheduled main events to be held in the coming weeks

As for the following events, we are going to hold them after taking adequate infection control measures, such as an implementation at a reduced scale.

Presentation ceremony of the completion certificate

March 13 (Friday)

Completion and farewell ceremonies for transferring staff

March 25 (Wednesday) Note) They will be held on the same day.

Accredited Category 2 children

As a general rule, we will provide care to children even while the kindergartens and accredited centers are closed. However, if the prefectural or municipal government determined it necessary in order to prevent the spread of the infection, the kindergartens and accredited centers may be temporarily closed.

Regarding the cancellation or postponement of various events due to the effects of the new coronavirus infection

As a general rule, all events to be held (or co-hosted) by our city until the end of March will be canceled in order to prevent the spread of infection with the new coronavirus. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
